Engaging young people as partners in shaping local services

With funding from Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, Space Unlimited has been working in partnership with New Gorbals Housing Association and Govanhill Housing Association to engage young people in shaping services and opportunities in their local communities that they believe will help to address the attainment gap.

Alongside the specific ideas that young people have generated, and are helping to bring to life in Gorbals and Govanhill, we’ve learned a lot about supporting local organisations to collaborate directly with young people as change-makers in their communities. Together with participating young people and local partners (housing associations, schools and youth service providers), we’ve co-designed unique youth-led approach that we call Community Shapers.

There's lot of potential to adapt and replicate this approach in other places, and, with the help of local partners and young people in Gorbals and Govanhill, Space Unlimited have created a short film to share this new way of working.
